Really?

Just, really? People don't treat their children this well. I am deeply disturbed, and I will probably have nightmares of cats tonight. If I wake up wheezing, I shall sue the paper.

I can guaran-damn-ty that I don't coddle my children like that. And I certainly don't treat my pets that way, either. I do treat the kids better than the cats -- because I certainly wouldn't kick the kids off the foot of the bed!!!! People have strange priorities!!! One of my hugest pet peeves (no pun intended) is when people treat pets like humans -- especially, for example, referring to them as "grandpets" (like my stepmother-in-law does).
